Supported Home Study
What is Supported Home Study (SHS)?
Family provides daily instruction in Math and/or English Language Arts with the guidance and support of a Supervising Teacher. HCS provides approved workbooks, grade level material, pacing guides, and/or digital online curriculum.
- Students typically engage in daily literacy and math activities in HCS approved curriculum and complete assigned work: Grades K-2, 60-90 minutes for Math and ELA; Grades 3-5, 75-110 minutes for Math and ELA; Grades 6-8, 90-120 minutes for Math and ELA
- Families use the HCS recommended curriculum, follow the pacing and teaching guides, ensure students complete work with adequate quality, monitor learning, use the HCS recommended resources, and provide additional daily enrichment activities to support student development in Math and English Language Arts.
- Teachers provide ongoing assessments, and review and evaluate student work and work samples to provide feedback regarding student progress and proficiency against grade level standards.
- Teachers provide social interactions, small group lessons as needed, and meet with families regularly to help families manage their pacing, to monitor and to guide student achievement.
