Grit, Determination, and Mentorship: A Horizon Success Story

Supervising teacher Jeff Quayle recently received a message from the mother of 2021 Horizon Charter Schools’ graduate, Nicholas Bevzyuk, reflecting on the quiet impact of dedicated mentorship. In school, Nick was not always motivated to complete his work, but Mr. Quayle consistently pushed him to stay on track, helping him realize his capability while building his sense of hope and agency. Guided by his dream of becoming a firefighter, Nick took the education he received at Horizon and combined it with his own grit, determination, and hard work to graduate from the Fire Academy. Today, Nick serves his community as a Firefighter and Paramedic for Sacramento County. We are proud of Nick’s success and grateful to his mother for sharing his story with our Horizon Charter Schools Community.
