Learn to Write Beyond the Composition Book or Binder Paper
Staring at a blank page — or a book full of them — can be a scary thing. Learn to make writing fun by ditching the composition books and turning information into poems! Or, integrate art with writing to boost your child’s creativity.
Horizon Charter Schools’ February Writing Workshops will provide strategies that teach you and your student how to synthesize information in short poetry formats including:
- Bio Poems
You’ll also learn to integrate art into writing and other subjects. Students will:
- Craft their own origami, pop-up, paper bag and chevron books
- Make a Waffle Weave about a favorite passage or idea
- Learn how to illustrate important concepts
- Create a hanging index card booklet to identify parts of speech
- Discover many ways to integrate art into writing
Families will come away from this interactive workshop with a plethora of new projects, ideas and resources to enhance their writing skills. Each person will make a variety of samples to take home and discover an assortment of helpful resources to assist with your homeschool journey.
Who Can Attend Horizon’s Family Workshops?
Our educational workshops are provided as a free service to Horizon Charter Schools’ families and are open to all families currently enrolled in Horizon Charter Schools.
Horizon’s February Writers Workshops are designed for parents with children in kindergarten – 8th grades. Children are welcome and encouraged to attend, however children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
One of the best things about our family workshops is that Horizon families learn and work together. You and your children will meet other families homeschooling through Horizon Charter Schools and make new friends as you learn concepts, ideas, tips and techniques for hands-on learning across several subjects.
If your family is not currently enrolled with Horizon Charter Schools, visit our Enroll Now page to get started. For more information about homeschooling, independent study, or virtual learning through Horizon Charter Schools, or our Lincoln Montessori program, please peruse our website or call 916-408-5200.
