Let’s Celebrate Our Students!
Join us in the NEST — News, Events, Students, Teamwork
Preparations are in full swing for Horizon Charter Schools’ fall Eagles NEST celebrations, and all Horizon families are invited to participate in the festivities. Whether you are new to the school or been homeschooling through Horizon Charter for years, you won’t want to miss this!
Our amazing regional administrators have been hard at work for months planning some great activities for families. Eagles NEST events take place in each region, giving Horizon families an opportunity to meet other homeschool, independent study and virtual learning families in their local area. It’s a great way to make new friends with similar ideas and values in a safe environment while we celebrate the achievements of our students.
Celebrations Take Place in Roseville, Elk Grove and Placerville
The events take place from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. on October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Roseville, Elk Grove, and Placerville respectively. Scroll down for the Eagles NEST location near you.
The student awards ceremony begins at 1:00 p.m. at each location. Teachers will present awards to recognize students who performed at or above grade level or showed significant improvement on the CAASP testing as well as for their performance on the iReady reading and math assessments and instruction.

In addition, Horizon’s teachers, administrators and other team members will be available in each region. This is a great opportunity to get answers to all of your questions and learn more about the school.
Eric Sweiven, Horizon’s Director of Online Learning and Ed Tech, will be on hand to demonstrate our new Cellus Bot. Part of the Acellus STEM-10 program, the teaching robot is equipped with lights, motor, and sensors, all of which are controlled by block coding modules. Acellus’ STEM-10 is a 10-year program that starts in the 3rd grade with coding activities and adds complexity each year. In 9th grade, students branch into the particular career and technical field that matches their interest. Learn more about the Acellus STEM-10 program at www.science.edu/acellus/deployment/acellus-stem.
Activities in each region include:
- Student awards presentation and celebration of student achievement
- Hands-on activities with Horizon’s educational partners
- Opportunities to collaborate with Horizon’s teachers, administrators, and other Horizon team members
- Demonstrations of the new Cellus Bot
- A chance to connect with Horizon families in your area
- Refreshments
Hands-On Fun and Educational Activities for Horizon Students
A vendor fair with some of our partners in education (AKA vendors) will immediately follow the student awards. The vendor fair allows Horizon families to sample some of the awesome services offered by local businesses through our Contract Programs Department. When Horizon students take classes from any of our approved vendors, parents can rest assured the companies have been well vetted by our staff and provide valuable educational opportunities in safe and nurturing environments. Plus, classes can be paid for using student funds.
