Learn New Teaching Strategies at Horizon’s January STEAM Family Educational Workshops
Discover How to Integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math to Support Creativity and Problem Solving
The new year is almost here. Why not start the year off right by attending our first family workshop of 2019 where you’ll learn new strategies for teaching your students. Our January STEAM family workshops will help you explore ways to integrate several key subjects to make learning more fun and applicable for your kids. You won’t want to miss these hands-on activities!
The January workshops are designed for parents with children in kindergarten – 8th grades. Horizon’s family workshops are open to current Horizon Charter Schools families and students. Students must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
This workshop will help you take the fear out of learning subjects that might be hard for your child. Whether you have a strong mathematician or artist, scientist or writer, this workshop will show you how to use your child’s strengths to increase his or her understanding of subjects that are harder for him or her. Combining topics your child finds difficult with ones that are easier and more enjoyable will help relieve some of the stress and anxiety of tackling harder subjects for both you and your child. It also provides a more well-rounded educational experience.
Monthly Educational Workshops Open to All Horizon Families
Join other Horizon Charter Schools families as you learn to plan cross-curricular projects that integrate writing and art with science, technology, engineering, math and a whole lot of fun! You and your children will make friends with other families homeschooling through Horizon as you explore new concepts, ideas, tips and techniques for hands-on learning across several subjects.
You’ll also make a variety of samples to take home and discover an assortment of helpful resources to assist you during your homeschool journey.
STEAM activities that will be presented in the January workshop include:
- Building paper circuits to understand how electricity works
- Designing and building bristlebots (simple robots)
- Seeing the magic of magnetism using magnetic wands and metal chips
- Crafting 3-D geometric figures using items from the kitchen, like spaghetti
- Creating the tallest and/or sturdiest structure using household items from straws to clothespins
- Learning new ways to look at challenging situations
