Join Us for an Awesome Mathfternoon
Horizon’s Curriculum Support Team Offers Free, Hands-On Math Learning for K-5th Grade Families
Please come to our first-ever Mathfternoon! No, it isn’t a spelling mistake; it’s an invitation to a family math afternoon for Horizon Charter Schools’ parents and their kindergarten through fifth grade students.
Join the Curriculum Support Team at the Rocklin Event Center on December 11 from 1-3pm for a fun afternoon of math activities. Horizon families will learn entertaining and interactive games that help strengthen math knowledge and develop confidence in mathematics for both students and their parent educators.
And, it’s absolutely free for current Horizon families! (Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times.)
Horizon parents, students, and teachers will learn and play games like:
- Pasta Patterns
- Where’s the Penny?
- Magic Squares
- Multiply on the Fly
- Clothesline Fractions
Plus, it’s a great way to meet and learn with other Horizon families, so you can build friendships while developing your math skills. It’s a win-win!
Special Math Bonus
As a special bonus, each Horizon family that attends this exciting mathematics workshop will receive a Mathfternoon goodie bag with everything you need to replicate these fun activities at home! You can relax and enjoy learning and playing with your student and other Horizon families knowing that you’ll have everything you need to repeat these interactive math games later. So, be sure to join us!
Registering for Mathfternoon
This engaging family math workshop is open to all Horizon Charter Schools’ families with students between kindergarten and fifth grades. With only one goodie bag per family, we are asking everyone to RSVP to ensure we have enough supplies and make enough Mathfternoon goodie bags for each family that attends.
Please remember: Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times.

What is the Curriculum Support Team?
In an effort to ensure Horizon Charter Schools’ parent educators have all the support they need to teach their children, we created the Curriculum Support Team.
Curriculum Support Mentors and veteran Supervising Teachers (STs) Wendy Fayard and Stacey Hay comprise the team under the guidance of Caitlin Hartman, Horizon’s Curriculum and Instruction Director. Wendy is the lead mentor for family math support, and Stacey leads Benchmark Advance curriculum along with English Language Arts (ELA) in general. These experienced educators provide ongoing support to teachers and families with respect to curriculum and standards.
Need more information?
If you have additional questions about Horizon’s upcoming Mathfternoon, please contact Caitlin Hartman at chartman@hcs.k12.ca.us or Wendy Fayard at wfayard@hcs.k12.ca.us.
We look forward to seeing you for an enjoyable Mathfternoon in December!
