We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our students, families, and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are following closely the recommendations of the California Center for Disease Control (CDC), the California State/County Public Health (CCPH), and Western Placer Unified School District (our chartering district).
Below is an update regarding Horizon’s response to the coronavirus pandemic that was sent to all HCS families and staff. We will post new updates as they are available. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work together to help stop the spread of this disease.

Dear Horizon Charter Schools’ Families:
Thank you for your patience during this time of public health and safety concern as we have navigated, together, through the modification of our education delivery of services to you, our valued students and families. You have continued to reach out to our administrators, teachers, and staff for your needs.
Due to the varied and continued COVID-19 health and safety concerns throughout the six counties of the Horizon service area, Horizon Charter Schools’ (HCS) is monitoring our learning community’s well-being. At this time, we want to give you an update so that you may continue with your necessary planning.
On Thursday, October 29, 2020 (moved from the October 15, 2020 Board meeting), the Horizon Charter Schools’ Governing Board took action, following a unanimous Cabinet administrative recommendation, to maintain the virtual education service delivery of the Fall 2020 semester, and extending through the Spring 2021 semester, completing a full school year of virtual education delivery. This decision provides consistency for this entire 2020/2021 school year, giving advanced notice to all.
Further approval — Vendor Services
Beginning with the first school day of January 2021, contracted academic enrichment vendor services may be in-person, keeping with the county of residence public health recommendations for that vendor location.
Further approval — Special Education Assessment
Effective immediately, Special Education will prepare for in-person assessment services from HCS Psychologists, Speech Providers, the Occupational Therapy provider, and Nurse for a selected cohort of students. You will receive further information from the HCS Special Education Department regarding the status for your child.
Special Education regular IEP services
In-person delivery options are under review. Until further notice, IEP services will continue through the virtual platform. Please know that HCS is in full consideration of Special Education in-person delivery options within appropriate safety measures.
You will find more information shared out, within the weekly communications, about any adjustments to current practices, such as vendor services, Curriculum Resource Center (CRC) services, office hours, etc. More information will follow in the days and weeks ahead.
*Please, know that the public health directives for protective equipment and supplies are in place throughout HCS locations for necessary safety precautions.
A special thank you across our charter of caring people for your continued support and connections to each other! Horizon truly is the “Best of the Best”!
Stay healthy!
Cynthia
