Helping Planet Earth Theme for Lincoln Montessori’s Open House
Each year our students present something special they’ve been learning in their classrooms. With the devastation occurring in Australia, the teachers wanted to find a way to give back and bring awareness to the planet. As a result, the school chose “Planet Earth” as this year’s Open House theme. Each class will demonstrate how they can help our world, from doing a variety of service projects to collecting money to donate and other great activities. Students will also showcase the work they’ve completed so far this year in other areas of study and provide a glimpse of things to come.
Last year’s theme was “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Students.” Each classroom highlighted one of the seven habits and demonstrated ways students could make a difference. For example, Miss Charlene’s class chose Habit #5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood. They presented ways students could use their ears to listen, eyes to pay attention, and hearts to show they care.
In addition, classes provided information about their community service projects. Taking place soon after the devastating Camp Fire, first-grade students accepted donations to help rebuild a first grade classroom affected by the fire. Another class asked students to make Valentine cards for seniors. Other students sold some of their handmade art projects to raise funds for an art program.
Last year’s Open House also included:
- Interactive STEAM games
- Student art displays
- Science projects
- Student-created books
- Computer skills
- Meeting class pets
- A delicious bake sale

The Montessori Method of Child Centered Education
At Lincoln Montessori, we go beyond the traditional Montessori school. Here, children from kindergarten through eighth grade learn in a dynamic, nurturing environment that incorporates hands-on lessons, community service projects, and school-wide events.
Our small, multi-grade classroom design provides a family learning dynamic. The teachers and staff know each student and family in the school, not just their classroom, and truly care about them. Plus, older students act as mentors and role models for younger students, which allows younger children to learn in a variety of ways and provides confidence and experience for older students. Mixing age groups also helps students learn to work with others and promotes our family atmosphere.
Student independence is encouraged, allowing children to become active participants in their educational choices under the close guidance of highly qualified, credentialed educators experienced in the Montessori method of teaching. Students are encouraged to reason, cooperate, collaborate, negotiate, and truly comprehend. This allows children to work at their own level while ensuring all state educational requirements are met.
Unlike other Horizon Charter Schools programs, Lincoln Montessori is a site-based learning environment. Students attend Monday through Friday. Times vary by grade level.
Families Are Important to a Child’s Education
At Lincoln Montessori, parents take an active role in their children’s education because we believe families should be an integral part of their children’s learning process. Parents act as art docents, attend field trips, participate in the classroom, or help out behind the scenes.
Lincoln Montessori hosts several family events throughout the year to bring families together. Past events included:
- Family dances
- Family game nights
- Family science nights
- Family workshops
- Family movie nights
- Parents nights out
- And so much more!
We even have our very own Parent Advisory Committee and Board of Directors. Come and join the fun! You’ll be glad you did.
