Message from the CEO
I am pleased to have this opportunity to introduce myself and Horizon Charter Schools to you. At Horizon we are committed to serving you and to providing the finest education possible--the highest quality education through personalized learning.
Horizon has been in existence since 1993—the 15th Charter School in the State of California, a fully WASC accredited Charter School, and one which has evolved considerably over the years, but has never abandoned certain fundamental core principles which have made, and continue to make, Horizon an attractive option for families and students in need of choices in their educational careers.
Horizon originally started as an Independent Study program, and while it continues to implement non-classroom based learning, we have grown into a great range of diverse programs and services, including a full, five-day a week Montessori program and many hybrid programs, cooperatives, and academies which offer four-day a week classroom instruction to accelerate and support student learning and independent study.
We offer contract program classes, A through G and Advanced Placement courses, enrichment classes, many alternatives in music, the arts and sciences, and online learning. We support all students: high-achieving students, many of whom have gone on to prestigious universities, and also students in need of additional academic support. We serve English learners and believe strongly in supporting students with special needs. In short, all students who come to us are treated personally and our academic goals are standards-based and structured to accommodate a variety of personal needs and goals.
Horizon has grown to encompass Partnerships for Student-Centered Learning, which incorporates a number of our academies and meets a more diverse range of needs in our parent and student community.
One of our most important goals is to listen and to improve our support to all of our students, maximizing both academic achievement and personalizing the support for every student. It is part of our mission to hold ourselves accountable to providing the best education for all of our students. We achieve this by working together and providing the choices that reflect the changing needs and circumstances of our students and their families.
